Report of Summer Program 2016
Overview
2016 represented a trial for this program from the School of Engineering. 15 students from 6 different partner universities in 5 countries took part in the program between June 14 and July 20, 2016. (Each student had a different program length.)
After a guidance session on the first day, they started lab work. Students spent time conducting research together with Japanese students thanks to the help of mentors and colleagues. The rigorous schedule allowed the students to focus on achieving their research results.
Participants gained knowledge and experience through activities arranged by lab such as field work, factory visits, and visits to other labs. The program completed with submission of a report following a presentation at the lab. The high level of motivation and the sense of diligence the participants brought to the program was highly motivating for the Japanese students in the laboratory.
During the program, students enjoyed a one-day trip to Nikko, a famous city with a traditional Japanese shrine (Nikko Toshogu Shrine) and Kegon Falls, a beautiful landmark. Moreover, they also joined Japanese language classes and experienced tea ceremony, which was a great way to connect with Japanese culture. Participants also joined the yearly summer party held by the Office of International Students at the School of Engineering.
According to the results of the follow up questionnaire, almost all participants were very satisfied with their experiences in the program, and some are considering studying in Japan in the future.

Participants’ Voices
(^_-) I think that it provides international students an excellent opportunity for conducting research under guidance from world leading professors, as well as experiencing Japan from a whole new perspective. I strongly recommend as it was truly an eye-opening experience. (ONG Fei Shen, 4th year Bachelor Student, Seoul National University)
(*^_^*) If now I had the chance to apply for the summer program of UTokyo, I would activate myself as I did before. Do not trap yourself at home or a narrow box. It's worthy of having an inspiring trip in Tokyo for your summer. (LIU Yuan, 4th year Bachelor Student, Tongji University)
(^o^) The summer programme at the University of Tokyo gave me a great chance to work in a world-leading research lab and immerse myself in a new culture. One of the best experiences I have ever had. (Bisterov Ivan, 3rd year Bachelor Student, University of Nottingham)
(^^)/ First time to Japan, and also the best. (Huibao Lyu, 2nd year Master Student, Tongji University)
(^_^) UTokyo Summer Programme is a unique chance for working in a cutting-edge research institution, experiencing life in Tokyo, meeting new people from all around the world and, of course, eating delicious food! (Kevin Florio, 2nd year Master Student, ETH Zurich)
(^^)
The SEUT program was very fun and interesting. In addition to the project that we worked on, there were many cultural activities and avenues to mingle with the other students from UTokyo. Japan (and UTokyo) is a very beautiful place and I highly recommend the program.
(Chua C. Y. 3rd year Bachelor Student, University of Cambridge)
(^0^) Summer internship program @ University of Tokyo - Highly recommended. The laboratories are well prepared for the internship students. A senior researcher was assigned for me to help me with the research. The professors check and discuss your research regularly. Their sharp comment and keen insights really helps improving the research. If you work hard, you might get chance to submit your results to the international conference. Professors at UTokyo will help you with the conference information and submission procedure. If you want to have excellent research experience, do not hesitate to apply for this program! (Sunho Ko, 4th year Bachelor Student, Seoul National University)
